Katie Taylor has opened up about the relationship she shares with Conor McGregor ahead of her homecoming fight this weekend.

‘The Bray Bomber’ is arguably the most decorated female boxer in history, but has shockingly never fought in her home country during her 22-fight professional career.

On Saturday night, the 36-year-old will finally get the chance to fight in front of her compatriots when she takes on undisputed light-welterweight champion Chantelle Cameron at the 3Arena in Dublin.

McGregor, who is a proud Irishman and vocal supporter of Taylor, made it his personal mission to get the 22-0 fight star a match-up in their shared homeland.

Initially, the former dual-weight champion offered to sponsor a rematch between Taylor and Amanda Serrano at Dublin’s 80,000-seater Croke Park.

Boxing promoter Eddie Hearn flew to the Irish capital to strike a deal with McGregor before Serrano withdrew from the potential fight due to an injury.

Rather than wait for her rival, Taylor opted to make her homecoming dream come true with the help of ‘Mystic Mac’, who stood by his sponsorship offer despite the opponent and venue change.

Ahead of her latest undisputed clash, Taylor summed up her relationship with the larger-than-life UFC legend who is sure to make his presence known on fight night.

“It’s amazing. Conor McGregor’s obviously a big name here,” she told Behind the Gloves.

“He definitely is crazier. We have different personalities, but he’s obviously a very proud Irishman as well.

“So, it’s great to get the support off him for this event as a whole. Yeah, it’s super!”

McGregor’s crazy life was recently the subject of a Netflix documentary that shows previously unseen footage from the MMA icon’s personal and professional worlds.

After supporting Taylor in her latest attempt at greatness, the 34-year-old is expected to begin camp for a fight with Michael Chandler later this year.

McGregor hasn’t fought since fracturing his tibia and fibula during a trilogy bout with Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 in July 2021.

At his peak, McGregor won two UFC belts and repeatedly claimed his plan is to capture welterweight gold and become the first three-weight champion in the company’s history.
