Gabby Agbonlahor has revealed that he was once banished from the Aston Villa first team like Jadon Sancho has been at Manchester United.

Sancho has been told by the club he will train away from the first team while a ‘discipline issue’ is resolved.

Manager Erik ten Hag had claimed the winger did not train well enough to be included in the squad that faced Arsenal on September 2.

The 23-year-old hit back in a statement on social media, that was eventually deleted.

It has been reported that Sancho refused to apologise to Ten Hag, something that United have not denied.

talkSPORT understands the talks have not gone as officials at Old Trafford had hoped or expected and now the Red Devils have confirmed he will train alone for the foreseeable future.

Aston Villa legend Agbonlahor revealed a similar situation that he faced while he was playing.

Then manager Roberto Di Matteo wanted to sell Agbonlahor and banished him to the Under-18s when he refused.

He told talkSPORT Breakfast: “I was sent to train with the Under-18s under Roberto Di Matteo. It’s not a nice feeling. We can laugh about it now, but as a young player who is 23, how is he feeling training away from his teammates on his own just because he’s spoken back about a manager he disagrees with.

“I didn’t do anything at all. The season had started and had done a whole pre-season with Di Matteo and he said ‘I want you to go, Reading and Rangers are interested’.
