Spanish side CA Osasuna will don new duds next week when they take on powerhouses Real Madrid in the 2023 Copa del Rey final.

Osasuna — who currently sit in 8th place in the La Liga table — unveiled the special kits on Wednesday, April 26, and will wear them in the final on Saturday, May 6. It is solid red, with darker “burgundy-red” accents like the Adidas shoulder stripes and taping that runs down each side and across the back hem.

The club says on its website that the special kit “will appeal to the ‘soul’ of the eighties, a decade in which the duels between the two teams became one of the classics of national soccer.”

The details of the Copa del Rey final are printed on the chest, and a Copa del Rey patch appears on the right sleeve. Printed inside the shirt, behind the Osasuna crest, is a quote from club legend Michael Robinson: “Osusuna es alma, alma y más alma” (“Osasuna is spirit, spirit and even more spirit”).

With this kit, Osasuna will be the first club team to sport Adidas’s revamped logo in a match. It’s been used on numerous national team kits, both in the 2022 FIFA World Cup and since, but this will be the first club kit using the manufacturer’s new template worn in game action.

The shorts and socks that pair with the jersey are black with burgundy accents. They “evoke the dark shades worn” in the 1980s, according to the club’s website.

Osasuna will also wear the special kit in the 2023 Supercopa de España, which is a four-team tournament featuring the winners and runners-up of both La Liga and the Copa del Rey.

Osasuna’s regular 2022-23 home kit is red with a navy blue V-neck collar and one navy blue sleeve.

TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR — Special Edition Kit

English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur is once again switching up their kit sponsor to highlight a worthy cause.

During their match against Manchester United on Thursday, April 27, Tottenham replaced the logo of Hong Kong-based insurance company AIA with that of AIA’s Reading for Dreams initiative. Since 2021, this program has provided more than 310,000 books to students at village schools in mountainous areas of rural China.

Match-worn shirts will be autographed by players and auctioned off to raise money for the initiative and for the Tottenham Hotspur Foundation.

In 2021, Tottenham promoted the Indochina Starfish Foundation (ISF) Cambodia on their shirts. In 2022, it was the AIA Better Lives Fund. They also wore the Tottenham Foodbank logo on the backs of their kits for a Champions League match in October 2022.

FC NANTES — Anniversary Kit

French Ligue 1 side FC Nantes unveiled a special kit to celebrate their 80th anniversary earlier this month. The kits were unveiled on Wednesday, April 19, and made their on-field debut in a 2-2 draw against ESTAC Troyes on Sunday, April 23. The kit is Nantes’ signature shade of yellow, with horizontal green pinstripes across the front and sleeves. The crew neck collar and sleeve cuffs are solid green. The club crest appears on the left chest inside a wreath of laurels, with “1943-2023” at the top and “80 ANS” (“80 YEARS”) at the bottom.


Meanwhile in Ligue 1, Olympique Marseille is celebrating a different milestone with a new fourth kit for 2022-23. Made by Puma, the kit celebrates the 30th anniversary of Marseille winning the 1993 UEFA Champions League with a 1-0 win over AC Milan in Munich, Germany. The kit features a white base with a bright blue gradient star pattern radiating out from the star over the ‘OM’ crest that signifies that Champions League title. The ‘OM’ in the crest, the Puma logo and the sponsor logo are all metallic silver, while the star over the crest and the club motto “DROIT AU BUT” are bronze.
