A cake that has it all from ease of baking to its incredible flavor and moistness is this recipe for my chocolate applesauce cake. This tender cake also has cinnamon that compliments the chocolate and apple flavor delightfully for a different take on chocolate cake.

You will be shocked at how little effort you’ll have to make this cake. Basically, you’ll need to line up the ingredients, then measuring them. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cocoa, cinnamon, and salt in one mixing bowl, then cream the oil, sugar and eggs in another mixing bowl before adding the applesauce. Afterwards, it is just incorporating the ingredients together starting with the dry and alternating with the wet until everything is combined. You do want to finish the mixing with the moist ingredients adding them last.

For this chocolate applesauce cake, I like to make my white vanilla frosting with coconut flakes. This recipe produces a thick, candy-like frosting that goes nicely with this cake. However, if you prefer chocolate frosting, then try my fudge frosting, which intensifies the chocolate in this cake.

I hope that you give my cake a try because you won’t be disappointed in how delectable it is.

Chocolate Applesauce Cake Uncut

Chocolate Applesauce Cake

½ cups canola oil
1 ½ cups of sugar
2 large eggs
2 cups of all-purpose flour
½ teaspoons of cinnamon
½ teaspoons of salt
2 cups of applesauce
1 ½ teaspoons of baking soda, leveled
3 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa

White Frosting With Coconut

3 cups of confectioners’ sugar
1/4 cup of milk minus 1 ½ tablespoons
1 teaspoon of vanilla
2 tablespoons of butter
4 tablespoons of grated coconut flakes

To Prepare the Cake:

In a large mixing bowl, mix the oil, sugar and eggs. Though you don’t need to use your electric mixer and could use a whisk to handle this task, I prefer to use the electric mixer to cream more thoroughly.

In another mixing bowl, sift together: flour, cinnamon, salt, baking soda, and cocoa.

Add the applesauce to the creamed ingredients and mix in to combine.

Now add a little of the dry ingredients to the moist ingredients, alternating between the two mixing bowls until all the ingredients are combined. Finish with the moist ingredients last.

Pour the batter into a well-greased 13 x 9 x 2-inch cake pan.

Bake in a 350-degree oven for about 30 minutes, depending on how your oven is regulated. Test with a toothpick, cake tester or slender knife to see if anything sticks can determine if your cake is finished baking.

Frost the cake when cool with the white frosting.

To Prepare the White Frosting With Coconut:

Use your electric mixer and beat the ingredients except for the coconut until creamy.

Frost the cooled cake and sprinkle the coconut over top.

ENJOY!
